No stranger to walking corpses, Capcom unearths another zombiethemed franchise with Dead Rising on XBOX 360. Players take command of a forceful photographer named Frank West, who believes he is on the verge of a breakthrough story at a remote suburban town called Willamette. Yet this is no ordinary visit. West soon learns that the unfriendly locals aren?t just wary of the media they?re hungry for flesh. Players must somehow find a way past hordes of zombies lining the aisles of the one place thought by West to be safe: a shopping mall. He was obviously wrong, but it?s up to players to keep him from being dead wrong.
Unlike the carefully scripted games in the Resident Evil series, Dead Rising features a more openended, actionoriented design where players can freely explore the various mall stores to use whatever tools, weapons, or items they find, from frying pans and umbrellas to lawn mowers and bowling balls. Time keeps ticking away as players search for potential survivors as well as a way out, with the zombies growing stronger as the sun goes down and certain events only occurring at specific intervals. West will be able to replenish lost health by finding vending machines or the food court, and he can also snap pictures of the chaos and mayhem to unlock different bonuses. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

the game is great except for these few problems…
First off, the subtital text, mission text etc is so tiney you can not read it unless you have at least a 30" high def set, even then it would be very difficult! I play it on a brand new 22" tv, and I have better than 20/20 vision and I can not read the text at all, even close up to the set it just comes out white lines of blure, is that a c or an O, a "d" or "cl" not only cant I read the text even if i could make it out it goes by very quick, so basicly i dont know what the hell I am suposed to do or what is going on in the game, this ruins the intire story mode, what the hell were they thinking making the text so small?! those idiots, when games today depend on reviews of users and reviews on shows lime XPLAY, you dont make stupid mistakes like that, you lose rating points and sales, they could not increase the font by just a couple points? none of thier testers said "hey we should make the text a little larger so people can read it"? or did they just not listen to the testers, sorry im on a rant but it ruined such a cool game,so basicly I just run arround an kill zombies and dont mess with the story mode.
then you have a cut scene every 2 minutes, and the controls are goofy, some simple fixes and this game would get 5 stars, but just the small text alone makes me feel like I got ripped off, makes me feel sick I spent so much money for a cool game that I cant realy play properly because I dont have a large High Deff TV.
Pro : killing zombies, lots of blood, everything is a weapon
Con : so many cut sceens, save system sucks, tiney text!
THE GAME IS GOOD OVERALL BUT YOU CAN'T READ WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING BECUSE THE WORDS ARE SO SMALL YOU NEED A MAGNIFY GLASS JUST TO SEE IT
Pro : GRAPHICS AND WEAPONS
Con : TEXT WAY TOO SMALL
This game is a riot, providing hours of fun. Trying to get even a majority of acievement points takes some dedication in a good way. Though the begining of the game seems repepitive same old save who ever, have no idea what they are saying because there is a complete lack of voice overs or readable text. I also did not like the control of always carrying the camera in one hand. The attack button did not provide the diversity that this game truly could've had fun with. Not only worth playing, but also a good buy.
Pro : Random Killing Fun
Con : Button mashing
When it comes to zombies, few publishers have more experience with them than Capcom. The company has made a mint in recent years off various iterations of the Resident Evil series, and that franchise shows no signs of slowing any time soon. So, it is with some curiosity that we now find ourselves with Dead Rising, an Xbox 360 zombie game produced by Capcom that has exactly zero to do with anything Resident Evil. Where Resident Evil was a series all about horror, tension, and frequent jump scares, Dead Rising goes in the other direction, creating a pure action experience with zombies that are much easier to kill but travel in higher numbers–much higher numbers, actually, with groupings numbering in the hundreds. As a departure from the zombie games of old, Dead Rising is a great success, wonderfully blending campy undertones and visceral, zombie-killing action into something highly playable. It suffers from structural faults, and the game does find itself leaning heavier on repetition than you'd probably like, but Dead Rising overcomes these shortcomings by being a lot of fun to play.
The main protagonist of this zombie nightmare is Frank West, a freelance photojournalist that has made his career covering wars and atrocities. In the sleepy little town of Willamette, Colorado, things seem to have gone terribly wrong. Military convoys block off all roads leading into the town, and all communication devices have been jammed. After being tipped off about the events unfolding, Frank charters a helicopter and flies into town to get what potentially could be the story of his career. What he finds is a whole mess of zombies laying waste to the town and its citizens. After snapping away a number of pictures of the carnage, Frank instructs the pilot to drop him off on the roof of the local shopping mall–a huge, decadent shopping emporium that almost seems bigger than the town itself. Frank tells the pilot to return in three days to pick him up, and from there, Frank is seemingly on his own.
Frank's journey through the Willamette Park View Mall is a fairly complicated one. The basic premise of the game is that Frank has 72 game hours to get his story and get the heck out, and how you go about doing so is laid out in a rigid, linear fashion, though also, at least somewhat, left up to you to decide for yourself. Essentially, from the moment Frank first hooks up with some of the key survivor characters in the game, he finds himself on a path to the truth. This path is laid out in a series of case files, which are the game's equivalent of story missions. Each case file takes place at a certain time on a specific day, and it's up to you to get to where those missions take place in at the specific time designated. However, there are also a number of side missions that pop up during the course of the game. These missions are entirely optional but doing them nets you more information about what's going on, as well as some point bonuses for Frank.
Pro : Thousands and thousands of zombies to kill in a myriad of ridiculous ways; tons of things to see and try throughout the mall; great sense of style; a plot that manages to be intriguing without intruding too much on the action; fantastic sound effects.
Con : Save system and real-time game structure are frequently at odds with one another; copious number of escort missions start to wear thin after a while.
It's a pretty old storyline(zombies in a mall)with 2 movies with same title and nearly the same concept but it's fun to finally have a hand in the mayhem going on. I love being able to shred the zombies and other nuts in the mall but the bystanders and sub-plots are sometimes bothersome. The mexican terrorist and the crazy clown are a bit much. overall it's pretty fun. If you just want a game to have fun and not constantly strategize or think about this is the game for you. It won't be nearly as good as Resident Evil 5 or 6 if you expect it to be in the same genre but it is better than house of the dead(aka worst franchise in this genre).
Pro : fun and never a boring moment with a storyline
Con : side-villains suck

Well ,i thought this game was going to be the bomb because of what i read on game spot , i was wrong DEAD wrong…. The first serious problem is that you CANNOT read the in game text when NPC'S are talking to you , if you don't belive me , go to the caprcom web cite and read the complaints , or google small text and dead rising and you will SEE for yourself .I would have def bought this game if it were 20 or 25 dollars , but i'm sorry , i am NOT keeping it for 64 bucks , i'm taking it back to wal-mart where i will FIND a way to get my money back , and if the unthinkable should happen and i can't , i'm going to run to the nearest trade in store and get as much back as i can before they get flooded with this game … so , i guess my advice to you is wait a LONG time until the price comes down and then buy it , and if you have to just HAVE to play it now , rent it .
Pro : Zombies
Con : small text , zombies
