Game developer Bungie announced that Halo 3 will be released for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sometime in 2007. The game was revealed to the world at the Microsoft press conference held at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA in May 2006. To gamer’s delight, the announcement was a complete surprise. The rumors have been abound for the past year, as everyone wondered when the next installment would be ready. Bungie and Microsoft did a stellar job keeping their lips sealed, and fans benefited from their first glimpse of the hallowed third and final installment.

The short presentation was delivered in real-time on the XBOX 360 using the current version of the Halo 3 game engine. That’s right, no studio production video, Bungie and Microsoft delivered the real deal: what they showed at the announcement is what gamers will see when they play Halo 3 in 2007. The HDR lighting, self-shadowing, GPU-run particle system and many other effects are rumored to show up in full effect in the final game. Needless to say, the gaming community is salivating.

CJ Cowan, Bungie’s director of cinematics discussed one of the most startling moments of the presentation: the return of Cortana. “Given the variety of character and story arcs at the end of Halo 2, we wanted to boil down our announcement to a few key threads. Cortana and the Chief being a galaxy apart is a situation we haven’t seen before, and is something that is a powerful component to Halo 3. We are using her transmissions in the demo to give the viewer a few subtle clues to her situation and state of mind, without revealing any specifics we want to save for the game itself.”

Graphically, the game closely follows in the tradition of Halo 2, although it has been upgraded to take advantage of the Xbox 360’s more prodigious visual abilities. As art direct Marcus Lehto explained, “[The presentation] was intended to be an understated announcement of Halo 3 — the tone is that of mystery and suspense — the calm before the storm. I wanted to make sure that we reintroduced the Chief, showed that Earth was thoroughly conquered, with Covenant everywhere, and that there is a glorious, ancient artifact buried under the Earth’s crust which will provide Halo 3 with the epic journey which we all want.”

Taking full advantage of the power of XBOX 360, Halo 3 expands on everything that has made the franchise great, adding a wealth of technical and gameplay advancements. The game design has evolved with next-generation, high-definition visuals, enhanced A.I., an advanced real-time lighting engine, and, of course, new weapons, characters, and challenges. Halo 3 promises an unparalleled first-person shooter experience and, in the end, the most compelling and engrossing story in the franchise’s history. Last, but certainly not least, Halo 3 builds upon the unique social multiplayer experience and innovative, evolving online gameplay of Halo 2. Rest assured, you’ll still be able to run with your clan and battle with (or against) your buddies from coast to coast.

    • The best FPS multiplayer experience out there
When it comes to first person shooters, it doesn’t get any better than Halo 3. The game is relatively old now, but it’s still the most popular game on the Xbox 360. And for good reason. The graphics are excellent, the weapons are inventive, and the game just never gets old. There are nearly an infinite number of ways to play the game depending on your preferences. You can team up with friends, play a rated match to improve your rank, go free-for-all, go in teams of 2, or just play for fun in social slayer. Weapons can also be customized so that you can start the map with anything from rockets to swords to battle rifles and so on. You can also create custom maps and download new map packs all the time.

The online experience cannot be rivaled. The game is designed to be played on Xbox LIVE. I’m sure the single player is fun, but nobody that I know even messes with it so be sure to have an Xbox LIVE account because that’s where it’s at with Halo 3. Not to worry if you don’t have one — Xbox LIVE is cheap, east-to-use, and virtually lag-free 99% of the time. The fun factor and replay value of the game cannot be beaten. Even though the game is awesome, be forewarned: The multiplayer experience will raise your blood pressure on more than one occasion. If you are like me and you are angered very easily, this game will certainly push your buttons at times during the online experience. Not to fret — it’s all part of the game. Just be sure to count to 10 and breathe deep.

    • Welcome to the Circus
I decided to write this review to the lack of intelligence in Halo reviews (both good and bad). The good reviews are simply idiots who, for the most part, know nothing about video games. For their reviews for they look at critical magazine, who are critical. It’s just like music, there in it for the money. Halo 3 could suck (which it does) and X Box magazine would praise it as much as possible (which they did), and people don’t seem to grasp this concept.

Critical people are in it for the money, they don’t care about anything else. They could play a masterpiece, but it might not be a commercially hyped or popular (genre style) game. They’ll go on the safe side, and give it like a 8.5, trying to keep the cult video game fans and the idiotic mainstream fans happy. You can’t keep everyone happy though. This generic reviews have turned the video game business into a circus, much like the music business, though I guess you could say it always has been one, but man is Halo expanding the circus.

In Halo 3 you run and shoot, interruption is a generic FPS shooter storyline scenes (fighting Aliens, so freaking original and innovative). You have a hero who wears some gay green astronuat suit, and everyone thinks he’s awesome because of how the cut scenes portray him.

I’ve played all the Halo games, beaten Halo 1 and Halo 2, and couldn’t bare another minute of Halo 3 after playing some of it. I have given this game a chance, I’m not an angry teenage rebel looking for something to be pissed off at, I would love to find “my next favorite game”, because it would give me hours upon hours of enjoyment. I’ve given all the Halos there chance, and they haven’t given me any enjoyment in return.

The storyline is complete crap. I understand that the storyline is not the focus of the game, the focus is running around and shooting each other. I don’t like watching with such stupidity though, pointless cursing and shooting, followed by a random “reason” in an ultimate Alien vs Human storyline, which has been done so many times before. It’s not epic, it’s stupid.

Take one of the scenes, that if I remember correctly, was played on the Halo 2 commercial. It was the end of the first level, when some Aliens invaded your ship that you returned on, and you were running around and pressing the R trigger, hoping for a lucky shot, with skill having a small amount of things to do with it. There was a bomb on the ship, and Master Chief took it and told them to open a hatch and let him jump out in space. He jumps out, and of course he only hits the ship he wants to hit, out of all the other ships there. Then he jumps off of it back into his own ship, and stands glorious as the ship he landed on blew up. Wow, unrealistic. I understand the game isn’t supposed to be real life, but that was just idiotic.

Beside the crappy storyline, which thankfully only lasts eight hours, another typical FPS crap that Microsoft kills, you have multi-player. That’s right, the thing that every Halo player does, in other words, those gay little people online that are annoying and think there something special, yeah those people. The games pretty expensive, considering the online fee, the game itself is $60, and if you want to go all out it could cost you quite a bit of money. What a waste of money.

This game is certainly not complex, and is mainly for people of a less intelligence level. You won’t find yourself thinking in this game, simply mashing the R trigger, or just settling things with the B button, your fist, which for some reason is even more deadly than guns. Thought goes as far as “Why is it when I become invisible, everyone can still see me and kill me?”. This game is simply for those who want to keep things simple, simple minded people playing a simple minded game, feeling accepted in a simple minded community. Nothing more, nothing less.

Before all these Halo fans give me thumbs down, look at your knowledge in video games. How far does it go? Is all the games you play the equivalent of listening to the “Top 40 Radio”, but with video games, or is it something deeper. I doubt you’re going to do that, you’re probably going to give anything that gives your Idol one star, a thumbs down, thinking I’m stupid for giving this one star. However, I’m going to have to go to saying that you’re pretty stupid, at least in video game terms, as if you do that you, most likely, don’t know much about video games, and your video games probably reflect a generic video game choice. If you’ve read all this and disagree, feel free to give me a thumbs down, but I’m just trying to get a point across, EVERY person I’ve met that likes Halo doesn’t know much about video games, and it’s a simple, over hyped, overrated, and stupid game. If you’re looking for something simple and catchy, Halo 3 is just for you, and you would probably enjoy the rest of Microsoft’s Video Game Circus as well.

    • Pretty Close but not the best of the Series
      Here is the break down

Halo 1= SOLID Story really pulled you into the problem and keep you in the story

Halo 2= Just couldnt provide that same story feel, but the online was first of its kind on a console to attract such hardcore FPS masses

Halo 3= Solid Story but could have done the first part of the game better I mean the jungle level was very generic and linear, and the bunker levels were a waste however; towards the end this game really take off and pushes it , and the inclusion of the new vehicles was great

Multiplayer is solid although it doesnt have the same affect as 2, because well, we played 2 and were ready for it but its just a much more polished multi now but nothing new and ground breaking

I recommend getting this if I had to rate them it would go in this order

      1, 3, 2

But overall, buy them all its just a great story and I got a hunch its not over yet…

    • Amazing Game
An awesome amazing game. I would rate it six stars if I could, but of course, I couldn’t.

    • Halo 3 A standard review
Everyone knows halo 3 is an Amazing game and of course there are those halo fanboys who love it because of the title. But unlike many reviewers i havent played either of the two installments. SO lets start whith this games Bad points.

The flood, I think the flood was a very good idea but when put into effect it was horrible and anoying. In this game if i just saw the flood it was enough to make me stop and turn off my Xbox, losing my will to play.

Dual weilding and punching. In game i dualweild a lot, but when i see a Brute my first instinct is to punch it, Which stops me from being able to dual weild, Because for some strange reason Master Cheif becomes left handed and cant punch whith a weapon, so i lose time picking it up again, i Really dont get this aspect of play.

Apart from this i think this is a stellar game and wonder, Will there be a Halo 4 in 2010?

But now I Think this game should be compared to another major shooter for Xbox 360, Gears of war 2.

Since halo 3 came out after Gow2 i will not be comparing graphics.

While Halo is more of a Just run in and shoot, Gow is a cover heavy game, and if you tried to do the whole “Run, Shoot and Punch” thing you would die in a few seconds. But which works better and more importantly, Which gives more enjoyment.I think the Halo system of combat is more enjoyable but overall gears works better because it is “More realistic” even whith sheilds chif wouldnt whithstand a hunters weapon for more then ten second, while gears you have a few shots till the omen appears, and the looking into the scope instead of having your aim on screen adds much more talent into the mix.

      Story wise Gears is superior.

But which is a better overall experiance? that is for you to decide.

The multiplayer for Gears , as many have stated, is broken while halo holds strong fun multiplayer.
