A good one which is often overlooked is Unreal Tournament 3. I rented it for a week or so, i'm planning on buying it 'cos it's that awesome *points at an awesome object* I played the demo of Left 4 Dead. It only contained 2 levels but I played each level about 30 times! It's pretty amazing mostly because (imo) all of the small parts in the game fitted together so perfectly to create the ultimate package! So really it's up to you but I'd suggest L4D or UT3.
