Video card problem – Reflow – PS3, XBox 360, NVidia, ATI chipsets, DV Laptops and Desktops

Published on Friday, May 7, 2010 by admin

Video card/VGU overheats overtime and causes video to fail. This reflow trick applies to most HP laptop DV models, PS3, XBOX 360 and some of the desktops.

Typical symptoms are screen flickers, blue screen dumps by the OS and automatic reboots, grey lines, dark screens (no video at all), system powering on and shutting off, no video and computer beeps to indicate a video problem, touchpad slows and freezes.

This approach will fix just about any graphics chip/GPU chip rise thermal damage Issue. You can apply this method to fix faulty video cards and XBOX 360s (can be applied to CPU and GPU on the gaming systems).

This particular demonstration is on a DV9000 laptop.

    • I’ve reflowed my HP …
I’ve reflowed my HP Pavilion several times, even done this for friends on their computers. The issue with this fix is that its only temporary. The hardware is still prone to failure. If your hardware is prone to overheating, it will work for even several months after a reflow, but eventually the issue will return. Also, when you reflow, you have to heat and cool the chips slowly, to the 230 degree celsius mark (the solder melting point). Its advisable to use an accurate IR thermometer for this.

I tried to fix a HP Pavilion with this method and it works fine for me. I monitored the temperature with a IR-thermometer to ensure not too heaten it up too much (maximum about 200°C).
Before i tried this at the HP motherboard i tried the method with a old 6800GT graphics card and it is fixed too now.
