Classic Game Room HD – DEFENDER for Playstation PS1 review

Published on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 by admin

Classic Game Room HD reviews DEFENDER (again!), this time for the Playstation 1 video game console, or PSX, PSone, PS1, etc…. This is from the Williams Greatest Arcade Hits collection which also includes arcade emulated copies of Robotron 2084, Joust, Sinistar, Bubbles and Defender 1 and 2!! Digital Eclipse was involved with this version (you should know them from the XBOX Live Arcade games on XBLA). Defender was released in 1980 in the arcades and is regarded as one of the best horizontal scrolling space ship shooters ever created. Designed by Eugene Jarvis, Defender pits you and your spaceship against countless enemy foes, landers, swarmers and pods who are kidnapping humans and turning them into mutants. If you want to play Defender but don’t have an arcade stand up machine this may be the best and most affordable way to do so, as soon in this CGRHD review! Classic Game Room reviews the best in new and retro video games. If you like retro gaming reviews and old school video game reviews and reviewing then you’ll love the journalistic integrity and itchy SHMUP loving trigger finger of Classic Game Room… sucka! Coin-op classic Defender review, right here!

Arcades must have made $1000’s from me in the early 80’s b8ut I did master a few games such as Defender,Missile command and crazy climber. The arcade owners knew when they saw me comming in that they would not be making any money with those ones(games) that night as 1 quarter is all I needed to play for hours. Two or three million pionts per game..lol

Yeah, I never finished it. I figured because it was because I never started using newer ships, just upgrading the Defender, and eventually I hit the wall.

Play Williams Arcade Greatest Hits for the Sega Genesis. The Sega Genesis controller is perfect for Defender – comfortable and responsive. Better than the arcade.

I have this on Midway Arcade Treasures for the PS2. Great collection of old arcade games. I grew up in the early 90’s, so to get to play these iconic games is nice. I recommend it to fans of Paperboy,Rootbeer Tapper,Defender,Defender2,Joust1,Joust2,Mortal Kombat II, MKIII, just to name a few.

    • There is an …
There is an excellent version (arcade perfect) of Defender on Williams Hits for Sega Genesis as well!!! I would emphasize the Genesis version since it outputs true 15 KHz signal, meaning it is the same as arcade original. With PS3 you are stuck with streched HD or interlaced video modes – which IS NOT CORRECT.
